CII- IGBC launched Student Chapter at Alakh Prakash Goyal Shimla University
Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), part of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) launched IGBC student chapter at Alakh Prakash Goyal Shimla University. Dr. Tej Pratap, Vice chancellor, Alakh Prakash Goyal Shimla University, Mr Jit Kumar Gupta, Chairman, IGBC Chandigarh Chapter, Mr Abhimanyu Deswal,Co-Chairman IGBC Chandigarh Chapter & Director, GLM Infratech Pvt Ltd, Col Shailesh Pathak, Co-Chairman IGBC Chandigarh Chapter &CEO, Registrar Mr. Rajan Sehgal inaugurated the program at Alakh Prakash Goyal Shimla University. Vice Chancellor Dr. Tej Pratap addressed the students with the objective of Spreading the awareness on Green Buildings amongst the student community and ignite the idea of green building in young minds, thereby facilitating India to become one of the global leaders in embracing green building concepts.

Ar Salochana Dhiman, School of Architecture & Planning, Alakh Prakash Goyal Shimla University in her welcome address said that Four days orientation program in Alakh Prakash Goyal Shimla University will stress on the initiative taken by IGBC will provide students with literature such as newsletters, technical bulletins and reference guides of IGBC rating systems, for library reference and will also have visiting faculty, Green Building Missions to educate students on related subjects. Mr Jit Kumar Gupta,Chairman, IGBC Chandigarh Chapter inaugural address included presentation focused on the need for thoughtful planning and sensitivity towards environment that play an important role in design of buildings in a holistic manner. He spoke at length about the tangible and intangible benefits of the green buildings. He further emphasis upon the need to create green buildings and sustainable built environment that improves human health, resulting in better environment and addresses issues such as climate change and focus on waste management, energy efficiency, water efficiency etc. Going green is not an option to adopt but an integral part of education for Students, he added.
Mr Abhimanyu Deswal, Co-Chairman IGBC Chandigarh Chapter& Director, GLM Infratech Pvt Ltd. said that the Key to sustainable living is to have a Both Economic and Social Development keeping the Environmental Sanctity in mind. Developing a living building is a unique combination of science & architecture. Using the concept of density, designing the space to breath with involvement of green technologies will ultimately follow the energy & water saving mode. It is difficult to judge a green building only by looking at it, but, it can be done on performance monitoring.
Col Shailesh Pathak, Co-Chairman IGBC Chandigarh Chapter & CEO, Art-N-Glass Inc. said that Glass, despite one of the dominant material in Modern Architecture, is not as simple as it may looks. It is important to select the right type of glass for the specific usage; otherwise it may turn in to a costlier affaire. Either, one would be buying the costlier glass or paying high energy bills.
Registrar Mr. Rajan Sehgal Alakh Prakash Goyal Shimla University concluded the program with the vote of thanks and stressed upon the green building concepts. He also said that, this CII- IGBC launched Student Chapter will be a great program for students of architecture and engineering.
