SCHOOL OF DESIGN

About the Department

The School of Design at present is successfully running through its 7th year after establishment in 2013. The department has faculties from most reputed Institutes of India. The school has strength of 40 students. Our school has been successfully collaborated with International Summer Festival Shimla since 2014. The students has participated and represented the AP Goyal Shimla University on National Platform many times. The students participated in various competitions also. Apart from these major events there were several conferences attended by our esteemed faculty at National Level. The faculty of the department has been actively involved in writing research papers and articles. The department started some new programmes in 2020 like B.Des. Product Designing, Space planning, Communication design, Diploma in Fashion Design. We have adopted our course curriculum as per the international standards i.e., Fashion Management, Visual Merchandising, Fashion Illustration, Garment Construction, draping & Computer Aided Design etc. We have best Japanese technology sewing machines in our Garment Construction laboratory. We more emphasize on practical work for the better understanding of the students. We provide summer internships & best placement for our students in reputed organizations like Tommy Hilfiger, Madame, Calvin Klein, Giny & Jony, Superfine ltd. Yukth brand, Arush clothing, Kazo Fashion and many more.

School of Design has conducted an orientation program for the 1st year students, as an introduction to Design Program. During this activity the new students had an opportunity to interact with their senior students, as well as with the faculties.

SCHOOL OF LEGAL STUDIES AND RESEARCH

About the Department School of Legal Studies and Research began its first academic session in 2013. The School is committed to provide legal education to its students by adopting such curriculum and pedagogy in order to give them extensive exposure of domestic, international and comparative laws. Our objective is to provide the rich heritage of legal thought and tradition and to contribute to the national development by inculcating a sense of responsibility among the students, while simultaneously cultivating in them the spirit of intellectual freedom, qualities of leadership, imaginative power and clarity. Our sincere endeavor is to make legal education as an instrument of social, political and economic change. Our students will not only be fully equipped with the required theoretical knowledge and practical experience in the field of law but will also be equipped to address the imperatives of new millennium and to uphold the Constitution of India. Events and Activities Conducted in the Year – 2019
  1. Expert lecture on Jurisprudence by Dr. Bodhi Satwa Acharya was conducted on 12th September 2019 in the university auditorium which was attended by law students as well as by faculty members.
  2. Law Day was celebrated on 26th November, 2019 in the department by organizing inter – class debate competition on the “Importance of Legal Education”.
Events and Activities Conducted in the Year – 2020
  1. A Moot Court Induction Program was conducted in the Moot Court Room on 15th February, 2020 by Advocate Ishan Sharma (HP High Court) for the final year law students.
  2. Organized a Webinar in association with Saraswati Dental College, Lucknow (UP) on the topic “Prevention and Proactive Measure for Cyber Crime” on 22nd May, 2020. Dr. Varun Kapoor (IPS, Additional Director General of Police, Rustamji Armed Police Traning College, Indore) was the speaker of the webinar and Dr. Rajat Mathur (Chancellor, APG Shimla University and President Saraswati Medical and Dental Society) was the moderator of the webinar.
  3. Organized a Webinar in collaboration with Lawsikho on the topic “Lawyering with Disabilities: Experiences, Challenges and Way Forward” on 28th May, 2020. Justice Kurien Joseph (Former Judge of Supreme Court of India), Advocate Amar Jain and Advocate Kanchan Pamnani (Supreme Court of India) were the speakers and Advocate Sanchita Ain (Supreme Court of India) was the moderator of the webinar.
  4. Organized a Webinar on the topic “Impact of Covid-19 on Access to Justice and Road Forward” on 3rd June, 2020. Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan (Judge, HP High Court) was the speaker and Advocate P.P. Chauhan (HP High Court) was the moderator of the webinar.
Achievements
  1. Ritik Thakur student of BBALLB IXth semester participated in 39th ZONE SHOOTING CHAMPIONSHIP IN SHOTGUN (NR) & ISSF held at NEW DELHI (from 09-10-2019 to 20-10-2019) where he represented Himachal Pradesh in CLAY PIGEON TRAP SHOOTING (NR) CHAMPIONSHIP MEN (INDIVIDUAL) and won the silver medal.
DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE & ENGINEERING About the Department Computer Science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) is one of the five departments under the School of Engineering and Technology at Alakh Prakash Goyal Shimla University and was established in 2012. Our programs involve interdepartmental, multi-institutional and inter-institutional collaboration and have attracted faculty members, undergraduate and graduate students from all over the world. It administers Bachelor’s programs as well as Master’s program in Computer Science and Engineering department. We also offer a specialized course in the field of Cloud Technology and Information Security apart from the core Engineering. The department offers various Program like B.Tech CSE core, B.Tech CSE (CTIS), M.Tech CSE, BCA Core, BCA (CTIS) and MCA, imparting advance knowledge in the fields of Distributed Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, Web Designing and Development, Internet of Things (IOT) with practical exposure which enhances the educational quality for students. The strength of CSE department lies in its high faculty-to-student ratio, state of the art facilities, young and dynamic faculty, strong focus on undergraduate education balanced with leading-edge research, and emphasis on leadership, service, and ethics. In addition to the excellent faculty and quality research opportunities available at the department, there is also a real sense of community and teamwork. Graduates from the department are heavily recruited by many top companies and excelling their careers in the computing industry, the finance industry, traditional large engineering companies, startup companies, management consulting companies, medical informatics companies, telecom and government sector. Some of our top undergraduates each year enter the master’s as well as Ph. D. programs.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at present is successfully running through its 8th years after establishment in 2012.The Computer Science and Engineering department specializes in delivering practical and skill based training. Our students are placed in various good and reputed companies.

The year 2019-2020 has been proved as most successful year for the department after its establishment. This year we collaborate with many placement partners, iNurture, SAWAYAM and Spoken Tutorial. Apart from these major events there were several conferences attended by our esteemed faculty at National Level. Department also hosted many workshop in collaboration with IIT Bombay for which the national level conductor was invited. Several of our faculties are selected as evaluators for Smart India Hackathon 2020. The faculty of the department are actively involved in conducting research, guiding /writing research papers and articles. About New Programs In this year CSE Department proposes a few advanced skill-oriented courses in Advance Computing technologies such as B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Science and Internet of Things (IOT), B.Sc in Cyber Security and Ph.D in Computer Science Engineering. About Faculty Currently CSE Department is having more than 15 expert faculty members with specialization in Information Security, Cloud Computing, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and IOT. Department is also having 5 IT Staff for hands-on Practical training and expert labs.

The department regularly conducts various kinds of activities such as Guest Lectures, Workshops, Industrial Visits, Quizzes and Seminars. Team of students from CSE regularly takes part in academics and extra-curricular activities in other universities. Activities conducted in 2020:

Ongoing Research/Projects in CSE department
  • Online Learning Management System (Edhitch)
    • Department of CSE, is taking necessary steps in digital learning, training and mentoring system. We have successfully implemented Edhitchc(Online Learning Management system & online examination system) for conduction of classes and exams.
    • Implementation of Virtual Labs: For conduction of computer-based practical’s, department of CSE has implemented VLABS, (An AICTE approved virtual lab systems).
  • Research in Cutting Edge Technologies
    • Comparing deep learning with or without Quantum computing – This research project tries to improve the scope of existing algorithms in quantum computers.
    • Wild animal detection and counting in camera traps using object detection. – This research project tries to count the no of wildlife animals especially tigers for their protection and security.
Placement activities This year CSE Department organized placement drive for students so far more than 6 companies visited the campus. More than 80 students participated for various positions.

Industrial Tour This year CSE Department organized Industrial Tour to different companies in Mohali, Chandigarh. NSS ACTIVITES Department have participated in cleanliness drive on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT About the department Electrical engineering is an engineering discipline concerned with the study, design and application of equipment, devices and systems which use electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism. Electrical engineers work in a very wide range of industries and the skills required are likewise variable. Established as one of the major departments of the Institute, since its inception in 2012, the Department of Electrical Engineering is actively engaged in teaching and research. With laboratories and excellent members of faculty, the Department of Electrical Engineering offers graduate, postgraduate and Ph.D programme in Electrical Engineering. The department has research groups, namely, Renewable energy Control Systems, Power & Energy Systems and Signal Processing. These research groups offer two Postgraduate programmes in Renewable energy and Power System. The department has the doctoral programme also. Events and activities

  2. Conducted the orientation program and hosted many webinars.
  3. Active participation in the cultural as well as sports events such as tug of war, table tennis, volley ball organized in the University campus.

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT About the department Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest and oldest branches of engineering. Mechanical engineers are involved with the design, analysis, testing, manufacturing, control, operation, and maintenance of mechanical systems that is, any system that has a moving part. Mechanical Engineering is a diverse subject, which involves design, analysis and manufacturing from small machine parts and devices to large systems. We aspire to have a distinguished tradition of excellence in the theme areas ranging from thermal, mechanics, Automobile, design and manufacturing to CAD/CAM. Currently Department offers B. Tech., M. Tech. programme in production Engineering and Ph.D. programme in Mechanical Engineering. Apart from these, Department also offers first year courses in B. Tech. (common for all branches). The department has a separate building housing the various laboratories viz : Strength of Materials, Theory of Machines, Heat Transfer, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Production, CAD/CAM, Manufacturing, Automobile, CNC lab lecture rooms, seminar room, faculty chambers and office. The department has seven faculty members one of which hold Ph.D degrees. Rest of our faculty members possess M. Tech. Degrees and are pursuing their Ph.D. degrees. The faculty members are experienced having expertise in Design/Thermal/Industrial/Production and are engaged in research work in the areas of Production, Thermal and Solar Energy. Intake for M.Tech. (Production Engineering) Programme: 18 seats. The Ph.D. programme has been started from academic session 2016-17. The first batch was started with an intake of 90 students. Since its existence, 3 Batches of Undergraduate students with B.Tech Degree in Mechanical Engineering, 3 batches of Postgraduate programme i.e. M.Tech. (Production Engineering) have passed. The curriculum allows students to study thermal sciences, design of manufacturing, system dynamics and controls, and mechanics. Mechanical engineers work in a diverse market analyzing problems, designing systems, and overseeing the manufacturing process. The objective of the School is to provide professional learning and curriculum, including a focus on the quality academic education and research-based scientific approach to optimize real-world impact. SCHOOL OF HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM MANAGEMENT About the School Every human being needs education because it brings out the civilized nature in them which separates them from the wild and dull animals. Educating the concept of hospitality is a new discipline in the field of education. It not only covers the academic notion but also educates the areas of professionalism, social behaviour, business environment, business management and administration, innovations and ideas for the human living and the environment surroundings. AGU School of Hospitality and Tourism Management was being established in 2012 where we transform young students into successful hospitality professional by a blend of theoretical instruction with maximum practical and on the job training. We preparing them as future administrators based on the present-day need demands of hotels, restaurants and hospitality management with emphasis on duty and discipline which is key success in hospitality industry. They are then provided with real industry placements that allow them to learn the industry first hand beyond the walls of their structured classes. This real-world experience is invaluable in helping them understand the theoretical concepts they have learnt within a working environment; it also allows them to build significant industry networks. There are four core subjects in the course, which are directly related to the management and operational works in the hotel. These subjects are – Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage Service and Food & Beverage Production. The core subjects have two parts: theory and practical. There are several non-core subjects which are essential for the students as they help them to understand the core subjects better, like Hotel Engineering, Accounts, Human Resource and so on. These subjects are spread over for years. Every student is being given the opportunity to undergo vocational training, mandatory industrial training and on job training in reputed organizations both national and international to get the feel of the industry before they step into the world of the hospitality industry. Prof.) counseled the new students and enrolled six students in different departments of APG Shimla University (b) Pyar Singh Thakur counseled the new students and enrolled one student in BAJMC (c) Dr. Ramesh Chauhan (Prof. & Dean Journalism & Dr. Ashwani Sharma (visiting Prof.) guided all faculty members to go getter in all activities of SOMMC (d) Mr. Swapnil Chauhan (Technical Assistant) made many videos for news story of the university and university messages (e) Miss Vijayshri (Teaching Associate) & Mr. Ashwani Sharma (Assist. Prof. Computer) supported for technical works of the university (f) Some faculty members presented research papers We are proud to report that 2017-2000 and 2018-2000 batches of BAJMC and MAJMC students have brought laurels to SOMMC by their excellent results. We achieved 100% results in End Term Examinations with more than 86.5% first classes. This was possible because of the continuous efforts by the dedicated teaching staff and by taking extra classes and other remedial measures to improve them.
