Celebrating World Pharmacy Day with a Life-Saving Blood Donation Camp

On the occasion of World Pharmacy Day, APG Shimla University once again demonstrated its commitment to social responsibility by organizing a successful blood donation camp. The event was held on September 25, 2024, and brought together students, faculty, staff, and local residents in a spirit of generosity and humanity.

The camp, which ran from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, was inaugurated by key university dignitaries, including the Chancellor, Engineer Suman Vikrant, and Pro-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Ramesh Chauhan. Their presence set the tone for a meaningful day, encouraging participants to contribute to this noble cause.

The blood donation process was carried out under the expert supervision of doctors from Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Shimla. Led by Dr. Sevi, the team included nursing staff members Ankita Sharma, Archana, and Paviti, who worked diligently to ensure the safety and comfort of all donors. Before the donation, each participant’s blood group was tested, ensuring they met the criteria for safe donation. A total of 52 units of blood were collected by the end of the camp.

Blood donation is not only a vital way to assist those in need but also brings health benefits to the donors themselves. According to medical experts at the event, regular blood donation helps reduce the risk of heart disease and strokes by controlling iron levels in the body. This makes it a win-win for both donors and recipients.

The university’s School of Pharmacy, which hosted the event, was commended for its initiative in organizing the camp. Chancellor Engineer Suman Vikrant and Pro-Chancellor Professor Dr. Ramesh Chauhan thanked the IGMC medical team and expressed their gratitude to all the students, faculty, and staff who came forward to donate blood. They emphasized the importance of such events and reiterated the university’s commitment to organizing similar health camps in the future.

At APG Shimla University, every blood donation camp is a testament to the university's ethos of compassion and community service. The success of this event highlights the importance of ongoing efforts to encourage blood donation, which can help save lives in emergency situations and foster a healthier society for all.
