APG Shimla University students shine at the 10th International Film Festival of Shimla

The 10th International Film Festival of Shimla (IFFS) recently concluded at the historic Gaitey Theatre, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who attended, especially our students from the School of Media & Mass Communication. The festival, known for bringing together filmmakers, artists, and cinema lovers from across the globe, provided our students with a unique opportunity to witness the art of filmmaking up close and personal.

A Gateway to Global Cinema

The International Film Festival of Shimla is more than just a celebration of films; it’s a platform that showcases diverse cultures, stories, and perspectives through the medium of cinema. Our students had the privilege of experiencing this cultural exchange firsthand. From short films to documentaries and feature films, the festival presented a rich tapestry of cinematic excellence from around the world.

Learning from the Best

One of the highlights of the festival was the opportunity for our students to engage with directors and filmmakers from various countries. These interactions provided them with invaluable insights into the creative processes, challenges, and triumphs involved in filmmaking. The students not only learned about the technical aspects of film production but also gained a deeper understanding of storytelling, character development, and the importance of cultural context in cinema.

Meeting a Legend: Seema Biswas

Our students were thrilled to meet Seema Biswas, the acclaimed Indian actress known for her powerful performances in Hindi films and theatre. Best known for her role as Phoolan Devi in Shekhar Kapur’s film Bandit Queen (1994), which earned her the National Film Award for Best Actress, Seema Biswas shared her experiences and wisdom with our students. Her journey in the film industry served as a source of inspiration, motivating them to pursue their passions with dedication and resilience.

Recognition and Awards

The festival concluded on a high note as our students were honored with the Best Volunteer Award by His Excellency Hon'ble Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Shiv Pratap Shukla. This recognition was a testament to their hard work, enthusiasm, and commitment throughout the festival. The award not only acknowledged their efforts but also highlighted the importance of volunteerism and active participation in such events.

In addition to the collective accolade, Ritesh from our BCA department received the prestigious Stardom Award at the festival, further showcasing the diverse talents present within our university.

The Road Ahead

As we reflect on the achievements of our students at the International Film Festival of Shimla, it is clear that such experiences are integral to their holistic development. The exposure to global cinema, interaction with industry veterans, and the recognition they received are all stepping stones toward their future success.

At Shimla University, we are committed to providing our students with opportunities that go beyond the classroom. Events like the International Film Festival of Shimla are crucial in shaping their perspectives, enhancing their skills, and preparing them for the dynamic world of media and communication.
