APG Shimla University and Sri Sathya Sai Organization Shimla Plant Over 100 Medicinal Trees
Raising Awareness for Environmental Protection and Ayurvedic Medicine. Shimla, August 25
In a collaborative effort between Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation Shimla and APG Shimla University, a medicinal tree plantation drive was held on Saturday at the university campus. During the event, students, faculty, and senior officials from both the organization and the university planted 109 medicinal trees. The participants were educated on the unique properties of these plants, with an emphasis on environmental conservation.
The plantation drive, guided by District President Advocate Neeraj Sharma and Prof. Dr. Lakhanpal from Sri Sathya Sai Organisation Shimla, featured a variety of medicinal plants including Bougainvillea, Neem, Amla, Bahera, Giloy, Amaltas, Moringa, Tamarind, Aloe Vera, Silk Cotton, Indian Rosewood, Bibhitaki, Khadira, Tulsi, Kalmegh, and Adusa.
Prof. Dr. Lakhanpal addressed the attendees, urging them to protect plants and trees as a way to harmonize with nature. He emphasized that while tree planting occurs globally on a large scale each year, the care and nurturing of these plants to maturity is often neglected. He pointed out that deforestation and human greed are major contributors to global warming and encouraged a more nurturing and respectful relationship with nature.
During his address, Dr. Lakhanpal also highlighted the importance and benefits of these medicinal plants, advocating for the preparation of Ayurvedic remedies at home. He noted the growing global interest in natural products and the increasing significance of medicinal plants in the international market. These plants are vital resources for traditional medicine systems and the expanding trade of medicinal plants is driven by the demand for high-quality, plant-based raw materials.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from students, local residents, and social activists from across the city. APG Shimla University's Chancellor, Engineer Suman Vikrant, Pro-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ramesh Chauhan, Registrar Dr. Ankit Thakur, Dean Academics Prof. Anand Mohan, Prof. Ashwani Sharma, Dr. Neelam Sharma, and Dr. Maninder Kaur also participated in the plantation, demonstrating their commitment to nature and this noble cause. Chancellor Suman Vikrant and Pro-Chancellor Prof. Ramesh Chauhan extended their gratitude to Sri Sathya Sai Organisation Shimla for their dedication to the Love for Nature and Tree of Love campaign.
