In order to encourage future journalists to take pride in and encourage a free and responsible press in India, on the occasion of National Press Day, the students of Journalism and Mass Communication of APG Shimla University celebrated National Press Day. Well-known radio-jockey Shalini Sharma from BIG FM and journalist Reshma graced the occasion as chief guests. On this occasion Vice Chancellor of APG Shimla University Prof. Dr. Ramesh Chauhan said that he has advised the students and scholars of journalism to take forward the journalism profession with dedication for nation building and public service. Ramesh Chauhan in his address emphasized the need for ethics in journalism. He said that today journalism is at crossroads and it is time for media persons to introspect and follow ethics in journalism for the development of the society. In present times the power of media is undeniable but media should know how to use its power for the betterment of man and society. Enriching your knowledge base should be important instead of glamorizing journalism. We should appreciate the role of communication in the world scenario and develop the habit of extensive reading. He inspired the aspiring journalists of the department by giving examples of famous journalists, novelists and litterateurs who have adopted journalism as a career. On this occasion, Radio Jockey Shalini expressed her views on honest and healthy journalism in the interest of the country and public. On the other hand, Dr. Ashwani Sharma, Senior Journalist and Head of School of Journalism at the university emphasized the role of media in nation building to certify journalists in India to maintain the quality of journalism. Dr. Ashwani Sharma motivated the students by saying that the future of journalism in India is bright and it can play an important role in nation building. Dr. Sharma also informed about the importance of this Press Day and the problems and possibilities that sometimes pressure is put on the media which is not appropriate for media freedom, but the media has been playing the role of a public servant even in times of crisis. On this occasion Pro-Chancellor Prof. Dr. R.K. Chodhary, Registrar Dr. Anil Kumar Paul, Chief Advisor of the University Engineer Vikrant Suman, Heads of all the Faculties of the University, teachers and students were present.
